Tiltas Solutions principal and industry expert Mike Tarino has been consulting to health services executives and investors since 2011.  For the past 20 years, Mike has helped build businesses by leveraging dynamics that are driving change in the health system: 

• technology-driven health insurance innovation 
• digital health  
• consumerism in care delivery and care financing 
• value-based healthcare business models 

Mike serves as a consultant and advisor to healthcare organizations and investors, with a focus on innovation projects.  Recent clients include Bon Secours Mercy Heath, Premera Blue Cross and Empactful Capital.  Recently, he was part of the leadership team at Bind Benefits, a venture-backed health insurance disrupter acquired by UnitedHealth Group in the summer of 2021.          

Mike began his healthcare career by building the consumer experience for the first members of Definity Health, the pioneering consumer-driven health plan.  He helped Definity create a new market segment and later served as CEO after the company’s acquisition by UnitedHealth Group.  Next, he led DSM Personalized Nutrition, refocusing the business on the corporate wellness marketplace and selling it to a strategic acquirer.  Then he spearheaded growth initiatives for Geisinger Health System’s health insurance company by developing population health and performance-based partnerships with innovative health systems. 

His industry focus spans health plans, population health management, and health and wellness in diverse environments that include publicly traded firms, venture-backed enterprises, and not-for-profit organizations. 

Additional professional activities include serving as: 

• member of the executive committee for the Heartline Study, a collaboration of Johnson & Johnson and Apple 
• board member of Health Quality Partners, a non-profit care model research and development organization 
• mentor to entrepreneurs in the Blueprint Health startup accelerator in New York City 
• advisor to several early-stage healthcare companies 

Mike holds a BA from Macalester College and an MBA from Cornell University.
